Jimmy Lee Jones' roots lay deep in the dusty plains
of West Texas. He grew up in the tiny town of Crane, an oilfield
town that lies just southwest of Odessa.
After a stint in the
Marines, he returned to West Texas in the early '80s. He worked
in the oilfields by day and clubs by night while earning a degree
in petroleum engineering. When the oil fields shut down, Jimmy
Lee packed up and headed to the
Texas
Hill Country. He found
his way to Luckenbach and,
ultimately, found a way to make music work as his day job as well as his
night job. Jimmy Lee toured with Willie
Nelson as his opening act, and continues to play Willie's
4th of July picnics. Through the years, he's opened for Merle
Haggard, Ray
Price, Ray
Wylie Hubbard and Pat
Green. |
